Summer Reading 2018

    2018 REQUIRED SUMMER READING PROGRAM

The purpose of the CHS Summer Reading Program is to encourage and support independent reading and instill a love of reading in our students. The ability to read well and on a regular basis is crucial to college and career success. Recognizing this, the CHS English Department has a year-round reading program which includes required outside reading during the summer months.

This year’s summer reading list has been updated to include some newer award winning and popular YA (Young Adult) books. The list was designed to represent a variety of genres, accommodate a range of reading levels, and appeal to a wide range of interests. Choice is a key element of fostering a love of reading, and it is our hope that all students will find one or more books that will grab their attention and make summer reading an enjoyable experience.

The summer reading program includes three books for Honors/AP students and two books for ACP/CP/G levels. Details of the program are described below.

    1) Required book(s)

Each required book is accompanied by a study guide, available on the CHS website.

These completed study guides, which must meet assignment requirements and be students’ original work, are due by or on Friday, August 10, 2018.  Class discussion of the required book(s) will follow upon submission of the study guide.

    2) Choice book

For the choice book, students will submit either a book report or a multimedia project due by or on Friday, August 10, 2018.  Information outlining the requirements of the book report and multimedia project will be available on the CHS website.
