Remediation and Credit Recovery Policies

  • Notice of Class Failure: Notices for when a student fails one or more classes for 1 semester are enclosed in student report cards. Semesters are NOT averaged. Therefore, students will need to remediate any class in which they receive a failing semester grade. Religion classes are the only classes available to remediate at CHS over the summer. Local community schools may offer remediation programs in the courses. Please see the following for additional information.

CHS students seeking remediation options should please note the following:

Catholic High policy allows students earning a D or F to remediate that class. The remediated grade will be averaged into the overall cumulative GPA.

Religion Summer School at Catholic High: Students with an attendance or academic failure of a religion course must remediate that failure by attending summer school at Catholic High School. A $100 fee ($175 for two semesters, if available) payable to Catholic High School is due on the first day of class.

Students must meet program guidelines to register for Community Schools programs: The student must be 16 years old (15 for Drivers Ed), provide proof of residency, have parental permission and signature, AND present a completed CHS Co-Enrollment form in order to attend Community School or PSC. Students must obtain this Co-Enrollment Form from GuidancePlease contact Community School site administrators for specific requirements and registration details.

Remediation is also available through online sources, which may be available year round. Some of these are private and, therefore, require a fee per course.   The Florida Virtual School is literally an online Florida public high school and courses are free of charge to Florida residents.    If you are interested in pursuing any of these online alternative sources, you MUST contact the CHS Guidance Office prior to enrollment to ensure that you have selected an acceptable course and completed the required paperwork to provide for the transfer of credits to Catholic High upon completion. ***PLEASE SEE GUIDANCE FOR ENROLLMENT DEADLINES!***

Students may NOT take a class required for graduation in a community school as a first attempt and will not progress in a sequence, such as math or language, based on completion of a class first taken in a community school.  Students may take a first attempt class in a community school as a supplement / enrichment to their transcript.  However, this grade will not be factored into the CHS GPA and does not count toward graduation requirements.

A SPECIAL CAUTION to students who receive a McKay Scholarship. Attending classes at a community school, public school, or online course may invalidate the McKay Scholarship.    If a McKay student is required to remediate a CHS failure, he/she may need to explore alternatives such as private online education. Please contact the McKay program with any questions.
